Six-Week Class Series… Mommy & Baby Yoga

mommy and baby class

Offering a space where mommy and baby can practice yoga together: exploring movement and connection, Vanessa will lead a gentle postnatal yoga class to re-awaken, strengthen, and revitalize mind, body and spirit.

Postnatal yoga uses movement, balance and relaxation to allow the body to recover from pregnancy and birth as well as the daily rigors of nursing and caring for the new baby. Whether the mother is new to yoga or not, all mamas seeking a healthy, playful bonding activity with the new babies are welcome.

A few benefits of postnatal yoga are, but not limited to: building spinal strength; rebuilding flexibility and abdominal muscle tone (which affects low back pain if core is weak), easing stress and hormonal balance by encouraging relaxation through mindfulness, awareness and movement; and easing stiffness or discomfort in the shoulders, neck, pelvis and back. Not just mamas benefit from postnatal yoga, but the baby does too! The baby and mother deepen their connection while practicing yoga together.

Some Commonly Asked Questions:

What should I bring to class? Your yoga mat (we do have some available for rent $2), a blanket for baby to rest on during yoga, wet naps and towels in case of accidents, binkies if the baby likes to suckle, etc.

What if the baby is fussy during class? We’ll begin class with a gentle breathing exercise, utilising ujjayi breath, to calm and relax both mama and baby. If baby is particularly fussy, mama is welcome to take the fussy one to the studio lobby until fussiness subsides.

What if the baby is wanting to nurse during class? All mothers are encouraged to nurse either during class or in the studio lobby.

What if the baby falls asleep during class? If the baby is asleep, let the babe sleep! Yoga poses are for the mother to explore even while the baby is snoozing.
